The fascination of the accordion

For me, art is movement: music that touches the soul.

My accordion breathes. My accordion sings. My accordion dances. My accordion is my means of expression, with which I want to create new worlds of sound, bring music to life, and break down entrenched structures. What I love about this instrument is that it is so directly connected to movement and breath. That makes it deeply human. When I play, I experience an immediate unity with this fascinating instrument, whereby each of my movements is directly translated into sound. This special physicality fills me with energy—I enjoy this lively way of making music! The sound is not just tone, but air and gesture. Translated with DeepL.com (free version)

I love crossing boundaries—between genres and listening habits. Whether as a performer or festival organizer, I seek new ways to make music an immediate experience. I am fascinated by dialogue with composers, the creation of new works, and the exploration of unheard sounds. With each collaboration, I expand my artistic horizons—from solo programs to orchestral concerts to interactive sound installations.

I am particularly interested in questioning and further developing the conventional classical concert format. How can the audience be immersed in the sound? Such experiments drive me forward—whether through unusual instrumentation, interdisciplinary projects, or innovative technologies such as the IKO loudspeaker system, which turns the room itself into a performer.

For me, music is communication, movement, silence, and transience. It exists only in the moment, and that is precisely where its power lies. I want to create spaces where music is not only heard but felt. Where tradition is not museumized but engaged in a lively dialogue with our present.

My artistic work is a constant search. A play with sound, space, and perspective. An invitation to engage with the here and now—and to experience together all that music can be.

Durch die Hausmusik meiner Familie kam ich zum Akkordeon und entdeckte anschließend das enorme Spektrum der Stilrichtungen und verorte mich nun im Bereich der Klassik/ Neuen Musik.
